Flourishing Futures

Intent

At the heart of our approach is the ambition to nurture Flourishing Futures students—those who demonstrate, or have the potential to demonstrate significantly higher levels of ability or aptitude in one or more areas compared to their peers. This includes;

  • Learners who show exceptional academic potential in subjects like English, Maths, Science, Modern Foreign Languages, or Humanities. This includes students who may not be the most naturally able, but who consistently achieve excellent outcomes through sustained effort, resilience and commitment.
  • Learners who excel in creative, practical, or physical domains such as Art, Music, Drama, PE, or problem-solving and leadership. Similarly, students who demonstrate outstanding growth and performance in these areas through hard work and determination.

We aim to foster an inclusive culture where every student has the opportunity to engage in challenging, enriching experiences, and where those who truly ‘Flourish’ are supported and encouraged to explore ‘Future’ pathways that extend beyond the classroom. By embedding high expectations and personalised challenges, we aspire to create a learning environment that stimulates curiosity, independence, and excellence for all.

Implementation

To bring this vision to life, we will implement a robust, subject-specific approach that challenges and supports our Flourishing Futures students through meaningful enrichment and extension.

All students will have the opportunity to access stretch tasks and experiences, but those who show particular aptitude will be encouraged to deepen their engagement through additional layers of challenge.

Teachers will be supported to think creatively beyond the standard curriculum—designing projects, extracurricular clubs, mentoring opportunities, and real-world applications that help students excel.

Regular monitoring and feedback will ensure that progress is recognised, and needs are met. A central planning table will guide subject leaders to reflect on how their curriculum can nurture talent, with examples provided to inspire innovation. This strategic, reflective approach ensures equity of opportunity while encouraging excellence, aspiration, and long-term personal development for our most capable

Key Stage 3

Years 7, 8 and 9 the programme currently will also include using outside agencies and organisations to enhance the Flourishing Futures programme:

Year 7: Your Future Story:  aimed at improving outcomes for high prior attaining pupils—especially those from disadvantaged backgrounds. It combines expert webinars, national study visits, and strategic project work using the EEF Implementation Framework to foster evidence-based change and support equitable access to higher education.  This programme will follow this group of students for 5 years.

Year 8: The Speakers for Schools InfoTech Programme:  provides students, with free access to tech-focused inspirational talks, employer insight days, and work experience, aiming to broaden their understanding of careers in the technology sector. The focus is on students who are Disadvantaged and/or female.

Year 9 (Whole Cohort): Elevate Education : Memory Mnemonics session:  This seminar looks at simple-to-use techniques and strategies that help students with their memory and recall. This seminar also shows students ways to deal with distractions such as social media, music, TV, gaming and ineffective work times.

Year 9: The Brilliant Club’s Scholars Programme: an initiative that partners university researchers with schools to deliver university-style learning to students.  It aims to increase access to higher education by helping pupils develop academic skills, confidence, and aspiration through challenging, research-based assignments.

Key Stage 4

Years 10 and 11 the programme currently will also include using outside agencies and organisations to enhance the Flourishing Futures programme

Year 10 (Whole cohort): Elevate Education: Study Sensei: This seminar breaks down the study techniques of the top performers, providing students with a road map for what work they need to be doing across the year and how to do it.

Year 11 (Whole cohort): Elevate Education : Time Management : This seminar addresses the second most common question: “Once I know what to do, how do I find the time to do it?” Students have busy lives and, for most, the challenge is simply finding time to get the work done.

Curriculum Examples

The table below is designed to show how each subject leader is planning to nurture and extend the learning of our Flourishing Futures’ students.  The idea is that ALL students have the chance to partake in the activity and then some students will ‘Flourish’   with the challenge which may lead to ‘Future’ experiences. These opportunities will develop over time and continue to adapt to our students needs.
