Fundamental British Values
At All Saints Church of England Academy, we are committed to promoting, actively upholding and teaching the Fundamental British Values of:
- Democracy
- The Rule of Law
- Individual Liberty
- Mutual Respect
- Tolerance of Those of Different Faiths & Beliefs
These values underpin life in modern Britain and are integral to our school culture, curriculum, and daily interactions. They sit naturally alongside our Christian vision and our Academy values to Act Wisely, Show Kindness, Help Others, Embrace Opportunities and Experience, and Build Community.
Democracy
At All Saints, we provide students with meaningful opportunities to learn about democratic processes and participate actively in decision-making.
We:
- Operate a Student Voice programme and School Council, supported by House Councils where students influence school improvement.
- Encourage students to express opinions respectfully and listen to the views of others.
- Teach democratic principles across the curriculum, particularly in Learning for Life and Humanities.
- Assemblies provide further opportunities for student to learn about democracy.
Through these experiences, students learn to act wisely, take responsibility, and understand the value of participating in a democratic society.
The Rule of Law
We help students understand that laws keep individuals safe, protect freedoms, and uphold fairness.
We:
- Promote high expectations through clear policies and consistent routines.
- Teach the purpose and importance of laws in school, community, and national contexts.
- Work closely with local agencies, including police liaison officers to support understanding of justice and responsibility.
This supports students to embrace opportunities, reflect on choices, and appreciate the importance of living within a lawful society.
Individual Liberty
All students at All Saints are encouraged to grow in confidence, independence, and self-belief within a culture of safeguarding and support.
We:
- Provide a safe environment where students are encouraged to make wise and informed choices.
- Offer a broad curriculum that enables students to explore talents, interests, and aspirations.
- Promote digital safety and responsible decision-making online.
In doing so, students learn to help others by respecting the freedoms of those around them while developing their own.
Mutual Respect
Respect is central to our Christian ethos and our Academy value of showing kindness.
We:
- Model respectful relationships among staff, students, and visitors.
- Promote restorative practice and respectful communication.
- Teach students to understand the impact of their actions on others.
By building a culture of mutual respect, we prepare students to contribute positively to a diverse and inclusive society.
Tolerance of Those of Different Faiths & Beliefs
As a Church of England Academy, we celebrate diversity and encourage students to understand and value the beliefs, cultures, and traditions of others.
We:
- Provide high-quality Religious Education following national and diocesan guidance.
- Offer opportunities for reflection, dialogue, and exploration of worldviews.
- Challenge discrimination, prejudice, and extremism in all forms.
This supports students to build community, appreciate the richness of difference, and live out the value of helping others.
Embedding British Values Across School Life
British Values are woven through:
- The curriculum
- Assemblies
- Collective worship
- Behaviour culture and pastoral systems
- Extra-curricular and enrichment opportunities
- Partnerships with parents, the church, and the wider community
Through this holistic approach, All Saints Church of England Academy prepares students to live well together, contribute responsibly to society, and thrive as compassionate, active citizens.
