All Saints Church of England Academy

Anti Bullying

At All Saints CE Academy we want every child to learn in an environment in which bullying is universally regarded as totally unacceptable. Everyone should be able to come to the Academy free from the fear of being bullied in anyway, by anyone, at any time. Staff are committed to providing a safe, caring, and friendly environment for all its pupils so they can learn in a secure and relaxed atmosphere.  Reports of bullying will be taken seriously and support provided to those affected.

We know from research that sadly thousands of young people experience bullying behaviour every day.  They often don’t speak out about it because they are scared of what might happen or they are unsure about who to tell or how to report it online. We want to change this by showing young people that they deserve to be heard and that help and support is available.  We are working with the Diana Award in this regard.

Experiencing bullying behaviour can make young people feel small, lonely and like they have no voice. They may think that even if they did manage to say something, no one would believe them. We are aware that if we know or suspect that a young person is experiencing bullying behaviour, it’s important to listen to them. We are promoting all of our pupils to be Upstanders against bullying behaviour by giving them the confidence to speak out themselves. As role models, the more we show we care, the more likely they are to share.

Bullying is behaviour by an individual or group, repeated over time, that intentionally hurts another individual or group either physically or emotionally.

Types of bullying take many forms but includes:

  • Physical
  • Verbal
  • Emotional
  • Sexual
  • Sexist
  • Menacing
  • Racial
  • Cyber
  • Prejudicial

Bullying behaviour can have long term effects on young people, including:

  • Mental health problems like depression and anxiety
  • Trouble forming friendships
  • Lack of acceptance by peers
  • Becoming suspicious of other people
  • Poorer school performance (source: NSPCC)

Where to get help

Internal Support

“Don’t face it alone”.

There is a strong pastoral team at All Saints and pupils can speak to their Tutor, Head of Year, the Listening Ear in the Hub, or any member of staff.  If pupils are nervous about approaching a member of staff, they can email any concerns they have about bullying to the following email address: reportaconcern@allsaints-academy.co.uk

External Support for Pupils

Pupils can Text SHOUT to 85258 or contact Childline on 0800 111 www.childline.org.uk

If pupils have evidence, they may wish to save it to share when they report it.

The ultimate points we all need to keep sharing are:

  • Don’t suffer in silence
  • Find a support network
  • Try to remain positive
